Dustplume was up so he could go with the dawn patrol that morning. He had gathered with his Clanmates at the designated time, and the patrol had gone smoothly. Borders were undisturbed, but remarked just for safety, and there was no scent of any rival Clans' dawn patrols yet, either. The dawn patrol returned and disbanded, but Dustplume was feeling restless.
The fluffy gray tom decided that now was as good a time as any to do some hunting. He would catch something for the Clan as well as something for himself, and it would give him the opportunity to stretch his legs. Dustplume padded out of camp, his tail high, and to the hunting grounds to begin searching for a meal fit for his Clan.

Mallowdrop had been hunting under the open sky of SkyClan's hunting territory. The place was familiar since Mallowdrop had only been out a few times, but other than that, she knew the territory pretty well. At least enough that see could find her way back to camp. While she had noticed a new scent in the territory, she knew it was a SkyClan cat, but not one she knew about. Mallowdrop continued her hunt for a successful bird of some sort, perhaps a squirrel is she was fast enough, but with all of her fluffy fur, it was hard to carry herself around like other cats could do quite easily. And the females lack of strength made her ability to run, catch, or fight other animals as hard as it could be. But, her strength in her personality was rich, playful and fun like you wouldn't expect many she-cats to act at their warrior age. Yes, she also was flirtatious, but never could find herself someone for her role. Someone who could respect her even with the lack of warrior requirements she had. A cat that loved her more than she loved herself.
There had been a massive amount of crunching around the she-cat, and it had smelled like a squirrel was nearby. Mallowdrop began to crouch low, knowing it was around her. She darted her eyes towards the sudden noise and began to unsheathe her claws. Once she got close enough to the point of the prey, she jumped, feeling a plump squirrel under her paw. She slammed her paw down, wondering if or not she had caught it.

Now, it was time to run over towards the new scent. Although, the she-cat had to be careful, if this wasn't a clan cat, she was in deep trouble. Prey would be a nice offer, but she hadn't caught anything in her last attempt, putting her in a spot where she would have to fend for herself if anything bad were to happen. She approached closer and closer to the stranger, noticing that it was in fact a SkyClan cat. She began to speak, putting on a playful voice to toy with the tom, "Out for a stroll, Dearie?" The she-cat mewed, giggling softly to herself as she began to accompany the tom.

Dustplume had arrived at the hunting grounds, tail still high, and spent several minutes simply wandering and tasting the air, listening for any signs of prey. What would he catch today? A bird? A rodent? Who could guess? However, he had only just begun to settle into his surroundings when he became aware of the presence of another creature. He looked around quickly, pale amber eyes scanning the treeline. He spotted the she-cat making her way towards him. Though he recognized her face, and her scent as a cat of his own Clan, he couldn't place her name.
She called to him and the stocky gray tom purred, "Well, I was planning on a hunt, but I don't mind a stroll with company." Dustplume looked around again, taking in the sights. The forest always looked a little different when he was with others. "I'm Dustplume. What were you doing all the way out here?" he asked curiously.

Mallowdrop shrugged, "Just planning on joining ShadowClan is all." The she said quite seriously, giggling moments after. "I'm kidding. Assuming that she-cats have the same rights as toms, I'd say that I'm out hunting for prey." Mallowdrop purred as she looked into the toms eyes softly and flirtatiously. Although, her interest was fake, she didn't know the tom and always wanted to lure in any kinds of cats with her different personality to get to know them. She looked around, her body language swift and caring, "Shall we get moving, darling?" The she-cat mewed moments after her last sentence, "I don't want to waste the sunlight on talking about my day here." Mallowdrop mewed.

Dustplume's eyes immediately widened when the new she-cat stated that she had been planning on joining ShadowClan. Gullible as he was, the tom was dumbstruck that a Clanmate he'd only just gotten to interact with would feel comfortable telling him she was ready to betray her Clan. However, the she-cat began to giggle and Dustplume realized - as she admitted - that she was only joking. "Ah, you got me," he chuckled uneasily.
Still, when the she-cat looked into his eyes he couldn't help but feel a little more at ease. She certainly was friendly, wasn't she? And funny, if a little dry in her sense of humor. She stated she was hunting as well, then suggested they get moving. "Of course," he meowed in reply, "I would love the company." He began to pad off, ears alert for prey and eyes distracted by the pretty SkyClan Warrior who had now joined him on his hunt.
He spotted a thrush pecking at some dried moss at the bottom of an oak and Dustplume crouched low to stalk it, hoping to catch it quickly and impress his companion. G70xYS3t As the bird pecked, Dustplume crept towards it, moving quickly and silently. In what seemed like only an instant the bird had spotted the Warrior, begun to take off, and was immediately snagged by the tom's claws and brought back to the ground. The fluffy grey tom killed it swiftly with a bite to its neck and picked it up to carry proudly back to the she-cat.

Mallowdrop smiled as he caught his prey, moving forwards as a bird had caught her eye moments before Dustplume's catch. The she-cat looked over towards Dustplume, winking at him playfully as she began to crouch low towards what looked like to be a robin. She unsheathed her claws, moving forwards as she stalked the feathered creature, her pupils turning to slits as she adjusted herself to the sunlight spot that she had entered.

A sudden pain rushed towards her paw, leaving her jumping up and scaring her prey away. Mallowdrop lifted up her paw, showing what seemed to look embedded cheatgrass. She winced in pain, dropping it back down and looking over to Dustplume. "Your turn." She mewed. Sure, she was in pain but she didn't want the other part of the hunting party to notice and have her leave. So, she just kept going, leaving it unnoticed until she got back to camp.

Dustplume could hardly believe what a wonderful day this was turning out to be. He felt almost ashamed that he had never been familiar with Mallowdrop before, since they were from the same Clan, but he was grateful for the opportunity to know her now. He tried to stifle the butterflies in his stomach when she winked at him, feeling his fur get a little hotter. 'It's hunting time, mouse-brain,' he thought, 'don't get distracted!'
The tom continued on as Mallowdrop stopped to hunt, leaving her a few tail-lengths behind as he scented the air in search of something of his own to catch. The heat of the sun made the forest smell particularly musty, just like the home he'd always loved. He looked back in time to see Mallowdrop returning, the bird nowhere in sight. "Can't win them all," he mewed, oblivious to her injury.
He gazed up into the trees wistfully for a moment before hearing a soft slithering in the pine needles on the floor two fox-lengths away. The gray tom froze and his ears flicked about to locate the sound. He crouched low, and sprang quick. ekEY|Iad

Mallowdrop dared to rub against Dustplume as she Thin in front of him, "I'll quote you on that." She teased playfully, a tricky smile flickering onto her face. She looked ahead though, careful to be quiet enough to hear the sounds of the prey that must of been surrounding them. The she-cat turned, her ears listening carefully as they fluttered around her head, her eyes focused on any noise that had been about.
The warrior crouched, hearing a nearby landing drop in as Mallowdrop had been listening. The she-cat unleashed her claws once more, hoping to have a success despite the pain that ran through her weak legs. She focused onto a familiar pile of leaves that she had heard the sound coming from.

Mallowdrop had failed, her paw beginning to grow of pain again, making her yelp and step back from what seemed to have been the hiding spot of the prey that she had caught in a different time. She sighed, turning back to Dustplume, "I must note that we both are quite unlucky today..." She mewed softly.

Dustplume was certain that the she-cat could feel the heat radiating off him as she passed near him; Mallowdrop was beautiful and charming, and while she may not be having the best hunting luck at the moment, it wasn't like he could say he was doing much better. The fluffy gray tom watched her as she continued to hunt, but for a second time in a row she failed to capture her prey. However, Dustplume watched her flinch from her paw, favoring it now as she Thin. The tom's pale green eyes grew mildly concerned.
"That's alright," he meowed reassuringly, a broad smile on his face, "seems like the territory's just a little against us today." He paused, then asked, "Is your paw alright? We caught some prey already, we could take a break if you want."

Mallowdrop looked towards the tom, a concerned look on her face as she tried her best to say it would be fine. But it wasn't, the pain was pretty bad, and she felt like she was pulling Dustplume down with her when she began to speak the following. "I'm sure it wouldn't pain me to sit down with you." She mewed, "It would be..." Mallowdrop searched for the word, not being able to reach it quite. Finally, the she-cat caught it, unlike the real-time prey she had been hoping to catch recently, but failing to do. "Exhilarating." She purred, licking the toms nose playfully, sensing his nervousness.
The she-cat sat down a little farther away from where the two had recently been, she waited for her hunting partner, wanting to talk to him about a few things, but of course, they were irrelevant.

Dustplume felt himself begin to purr when she said it would be alright - even exhilarating - to sit with him. She licked his nose and he couldn't help but chuckle, feeling a ripple of excitement run through his body. He hated to move too fast, but she seemed to be giving him pretty obvious signs, right? Still, better safe than sorry. The two padded to a nice spot to sit, resting in the shade of a tree.
He attempted to casually wrap his tail around her, though if she disapproved he'd simply move it and act like he hadn't realized - Dustplume would hate to ruin their friendship by trying to make it more than what it was. Nonetheless, he felt attracted to Mallowdrop and hoped she felt the same. "Mallowdrop," he meowed, smiling, "I'm glad we bumped into each other today. Hunting is much more enjoyable with company."

Mallowdrop didn't expect the tom to make a turn like this. The she-cat turned red, shocked but understanding it would be rude to turn down the tom. She leaned onto Dustplume's shoulder, moving closer to him as he spoke. He was a little warmer than most cats, but that may of just been Mallowdrop's thought.
The warrior looked towards the male, "It really is." She purred, "Especially with you, Dustplume." She mewed, saying Dustplume not in an angry or teasing way, but almost flirty.

Now Dustplume was nearly certain that Mallowdrop was trying to flirt with him, and somehow his nerve began to falter. They couldn't move that quickly. After all, before today he hadn't even remembered her name. They'd grown up in the same Clan but were somehow almost total strangers. There were lots of things that she didn't know about him and that he didn't know about her. For now, sitting and just talking seemed like a good option. He tried not to shudder at the way she said his name.
"So, Mallowdrop," he meowed, "if you could have your pick of any fresh-kill in the forest, what would you want to eat?" He looked at her, smirked, shrugged, and said with a chuckle, "Just making conversation. Personally, I heard that ShadowClan eats toads. I'm curious, in a disgusted kind of way."

Mallowdrop shrugged, unsure of what it was she would ever eat. She loved squirrels, they were fast to eat, easy to catch, and could fill you up no matter the size. She wondered if her response was generic, but she understood that Dustplume may have been getting uncomfortable since the two had just met.
The SkyClan she-cat pulled her head upwards, looking away from Dustplume and speaking a little less flirtatiously. "Squirrels are nice for treats and meals." She mewed, not considering looking back at the tom, but trying not to seem too rude about her response to his topic change.

Inwardly, Dustplume was now kicking himself for changing the topic so suddenly. Everything had been going so well... Really, he had just lost his nerve. He'd have to deal with that fact, since any attempts to backpedal now would be just as obvious as his unfortunate backing off in the first place. He nodded and replied, "I enjoy catching them. I find their speed and unpredictability while being chased very invigorating." The gray tom flicked his tail and pulled it away from the she-cat, though he still leaned his body against hers just a little.
