((OOC: leaf )) Valewhisper woke with a start; the edges of the medicine cat den bore the leftover remnants of frost, glimmering in the early morning light, and her heart skipped a beat. It was too early for frost - leaf-fall couldn't be here yet! She had noticed it getting a little cooler, but she hadn't realized a frost would come through overnight. The fluffy black and white she-cat rose to her paws and shook out her fur vigorously before turning her soft green eyes to look for the white coat of her new apprentice, Frostpaw. The young she-cat had behaved inappropriately at the last Gathering, but Valewhisper blamed herself for having not taught the she-cat better and being there to help guide her during her first visit. Still, what was done was done, and the Gathering had been traumatizing enough. Valewhisper saw no need to bring it up anymore.
Frostpaw had had a very sudden introduction to healing herbs, but she'd have an opportunity to learn more from Valewhisper during her time as medicine cat apprentice. Valewhisper mewed, "Frostpaw?"

| F rostpaw yawned having just woken up and very peaceful. Ever since becoming a medicine cat apprentice. She has been going much better than she could have ever dreamed. Valewhiper's was very nice and patient with her. She reminds her more of her own mom by the day. Thou the gathering was a little chuckled up, she tried her best to overcome it was in the past now.
She rosed up for her mossbed and stretch. Leaffall was her already gives relief from the blazing heat. After that, she walked up to her mother-I mean-mentor and spoke in a kind tone. "Yes. Valewhiper you called." |

Valewhisper purred as she heard Frostpaw's mew, relieved to hear such a cheery response after having grown used to having the little she-cat around already. Frostpaw had all but lived in the medicine cat's den after the death of her parents. Valewhisper had felt more than willing to take the kit in, since she had been ready for weaning at that age. The two of them likely wouldn't admit it to each other, now or ever, but Valewhisper saw Frostpaw as her own kit more and more every day. The medicine cat worried about dishonoring both the memories of Frostpaw's parents and about dishonoring StarClan and the medicine cat code. The whole Clan should feel like her kits, which was why she mustn't have her own.
Whatever their feelings, the quickly thawing frost outside was far more pressing. "Yes, Frostpaw, I've decided we're going to be seeing the territory today. It will be in search of herbs, so it may not be as extensive as if you went on a warrior patrol, but it will be a learning experience either way," Valewhisper explained. She bent over to groom her long, thick black-and-white fur and mewed between licks, "Why don't you get yourself some fresh-kill while I clean my fur? I'll catch something while we're out of camp and it'll give you the opportunity to learn to hunt." She fell quiet as she focused on grooming her silky coat, which was a task and a half on its own.
Valewhisper sat in the silence of her den for several long moments, drawing her tongue rhythmically over her fur until all the tangles were out and it shimmered in the glowing sunlight. Finally she stood and padded into the clearing, seeing that Frostpaw was finished eating before waving her tail and beckoning Frostpaw to her. "Now, I know this isn't your first time out of camp," she began as her apprentice reached her side, "but this is not the night of the Gathering, and so there is no truce with the other Clans. We are medicine cats, which grants us rite of passage on another Clan's territory, but only with good reason. Today everything we need is in our territory, so we must respect the boundaries. We mustn't stray onto another Clan's territory, and if we see any other Clans trespassing on ShadowClan territory we must return to camp to inform the warriors. You and I must not fight."
She hesitated for a moment before adding, "That is not to say that we can't defend ourselves, or that we are not expected to fight tooth and nail for our Clan, but our path is to save lives - not harm them." Valewhisper nodded and began to pad out of camp, continuing, "We'll certainly need to be able to defend ourselves from rogues, loners, even kittypets, foxes, and badgers. They follow no code, so we can expect no honor from them."
