The sun was at its peak, beating straight down on the moor. There was little to no foliage here, other than grasses and the occasional shrub, so there was nowhere to hide from the sun during the peak of greenleaf. The heat would be unbearable for any creature that wasn't used to it, but WindClan had been living here for generations. They thrived with the seasons just like all predator and prey alike thrived here.
It was time for the sun-high patrol, and Brackenstar's lean muscles were aching for a rabbit chase. He looked to his Warriors and spotted Kestrelfang and Petalwish amongst them; to each he gave a nod, then flicked his tail to beckon them to him. He meowed, "Care to go on a patrol with me?" Though phrased like a question, his authoritative stance made it more of a statement.

Kestrelfang looked over to Brackenstar, hearing his question as clear as it could be. The tall warrior nodded, "I'm sure a chase would be fitting for us warriors, Brackenstar." Kestrelfang mewed as he got up from his spot with Petalwish and Thin forwards towards Brackenstar. "My legs could use a rabbit chase or two, haven't gone out for a hunt in a little bit." The male stated as he began to stretch his legs.

"Alright." Petalwish's mew was quiet and refined, but his sweet and genuine smile made up for his lack of words. Frankly, he was honored to go on a patrol with Brackenstar, and was glad that he got this opportunity. Padding to the entrance of camp, he was glad that Kestralfang was speaking. Silence was just be awkward, and he had never been good with words. Right then, he made it his goal for the patrol to be successful and pleasant. All too often his quietness ended up taking the fun out of patrols, and bad moods didn't help to catch food in the slightest. Hopefully the day would go well, and he could impress his leader and possibly make a friend. At least he was good at hunting, so he had something going for him.

Brackenstar watched his fellow Clanmates approach him, agreeing to the patrol that he had requested them to join. He nodded his tabby-striped head and meowed, "Let's get going, then. We'll mark the northern border while we're out there, but it's an excellent day for hunting. No reason to miss out on a golden opportunity."
The WindClan leader turned to the tunnel in the gorse wall that surrounded their camp, walking quickly and slipping through the opening into the open land around them. As suggested, he headed Northeast, towards Highstones and, more importantly, the Thunderpath which marked their border. He scanned the sky quickly, as active prey frequently meant active predators.

Kestrelfang Thin close to Brackenstar, whom he was quite loyal towards. The tom began to look around quietly, hoping that the Thunderpath would be quiet enough to host space for prey. The WindClan warrior began to space out from the patrol, beginning to stalk the grasses that surrounded the Thunderpath, as he knew that some prey would leap out at any moment, even if it was a reckless mistake or not.
A new noise came from the forest, the movement of fallen leaves that hadn't been Thin by any twolegs. Kestrelfang looked into the unclaimed part of land, noticing a small bird gathering resources for its new nest that it must of been building. Kestrelfang knew that it would be hard to take care of the preys life, being that it was surrounded by trees and could be startled by the toms noise at any moment he jumped towards the bird. He held his breathe, beginning to crouch lowly and keep his sharp eye on the soon-to-be food. The warrior blinked for a few moments, letting time pass so the bird could be comfortable and know that nothing was there to get it.

Kestrelfang jumped, lashing out towards the bird. He pinned it down with his larger paw with enough for to hold it down, but not kill it. He lowered his jaw towards the struggling flyer, ending its life easily with a simple bite. The warrior picked it up and Thin it out towards where he was more visible to his patrol. He dropped down the lifeless body and began to dig a small hole where he could store the prey until later. He pushed it in a buried it, moving around some more to try and find his next victim.

Nodding in response, Petalwish followed Brackenstar out of camp, smiling as the wind hit the fur on his face. While he knew marking the borders was important, he hoped they could finish that up quickly enough. Chasing a rabbit with the breeze in his fur was what he needed that day. As they approached the Thunderpath, he realized that Kestrelfang was already hunting. Well, he might as well start before they reached the border as well. What harm could come from it? Scenting the air, he quickly picked up the scent of a rabbit. Those were tasty, and he was better at catching prey that didn't have wings. Following the trail a small distance, he seperated from his patrol, while still staying close enough to see the other two. Spotting the rabbit, he slipped into a hunting crouch, slowly approaching the brown creature.

As he prepared for a pounce, he weight lowered onto a stick, snapping in in half. In an instant, the rabbit shot away. Running after it, it didn't take him long to realize that is efforts were in vain. Sighing, he walked back to his patrol.

Brackenstar watched as Kestrelfang split from the patrol first, off to find his own prey as he had suggested they could. The leader merely flicked his tail in acknowledgement, continuing along towards the border to find the first place to mark. Several moments later Petalwish peeled off as well, having spotted something in the distance. From Brackenstar's perspective, there would be plenty of time for hunting on the way back, so he wasn't particularly concerned with getting to it right away; however, his Clanmates were more than welcome to. It was good for his Warriors to get the opportunity to get out and run.
Brackenstar had finally reached the Thunderpath and made his first mark several tail-lengths inside the boundary of the strange black path by the time Petalwish returned to his side. In the distance, Brackenstar saw a glimpse of Kestrelfang as he finished burying his catch and then continued hunting. The WindClan leader looked to Petalwish, nodding to welcome the Warrior back, and said nothing, knowing that no words could take away the sting of missing a catch. Though an inevitability, the only thing Brackenstar disliked more than failing to catch his target was when someone pointed it out.
The WindClan leader continued along the same path inside the Thunderpath border, and the trees back towards the rest of the Clans began to disappear, leaving only the grassy moor around them. Brackenstar spotted a hawk flying off on the horizon, circling something far from the patrol. The WindClan leader made note of it, but it seemed to have spotted something else far away; it was not a threat yet.

Kestrelfang Thin closely to his next target, being aware of his distance from the patrol, but also from the noise he was making by running back out into the open in the dead leaves. He looked around, running the trees that he passed as he ran back out closer to the Thunderpath. He looked around, pulling his nose to the air and beginning to sniff wildly, hoping for some sort of scent to pick up. Yes, a rabbit! the warrior thought as he began to look around, knowing the scent was nearby and making a certain type of noise. It had been the scrambling of leaves from next to him. The path he had taken to get to The Thunderpath also had prey, but he was knowingly afraid that Brackenstar may believe that the WindClan cat was heading home, which he wasn't. The male looked over to where Petalwish and his leader had been signalling each other. But the warrior tried his best not to hesitate, for it was the perfect time to get prey and he wasn't going to be wasting that.
The tall WindClan warrior made his way silently into the forest, where the leaves had been seperated in order to make room for a path that WindClan could roam. Kestrelfang noted that the noise from the rabbit had still been going on, meaning it was searching for something in the leaves, or was running off. But Kestrelfang's sense were telling him it wasn't moving, so the warrior had gotten somewhat confused. He looked around, seeing a small brown rabbit tucked away in the forest, digging around in the leaves and eating. It has to be busy eating it's food, I should be able to catch it... Kestrelfang thought as he Thin himself closer and closer to the prey, he had known that this was a risky move, it could scare off the rabbit at any moment, so he had to be careful not to drag his body too low and to not step in the wrong spots.

Kestrelfang began to move himself so that the bunny couldn't escape, but he had taken far too long and the the wild mammal had darted away as soon as it looked up. Kestrelfang had made a poor move when hunting that rabbit, and it was one that a new apprentice would only make. He sighed at himself, glad that his leader couldn't see. The WindClan member decided it may be best to just patrol the area for awhile and mark things up so that he could take a small break from his spree that had ended very horribly.

((OoC: Something exciting will happen in my next post, I promise. xD)) Brackenstar kept the distant hawk in mind as he continued along the border, the two Warriors who had accompanied him coming and going as they caught and attempted to catch prey. However, after several minutes of traveling along the border marking, the golden-brown tom realized it had disappeared from its place in the sky. Likely it had taken a dive for the prey it had found a short distance away. The WindClan leader continued along his way, both of his Warriors having now returned to him.
"Stay alert," Brackenstar said to his Warriors, "There was a hawk to the East that I've lost track of. It may not be a threat, but I'd rather we stay on our toes."

Kesterelfang unsheathed his claws, aware of the hawk that his leader had pointed out since when he had been coming back he had noticed it. Although he didn't know where it landed, hopefully it was busy with prey other than this patrol. His worries weren't too much on the hawk than his clan, he needed to make a good impression on the leader in order to find a way to rise his rank to a somewhat higher meaning. Although, with WindClan already able to recruit so many important roles, Kestrelfang knew he had no chance what so ever of fighting his way to being Kestrelstar, something he had dreamed of like every kit when he was younger, but took much more seriously.
The warrior looked around, the prey hour had worn off and now it was suddenly much quieter in The North Field. Kestrelfang walked closer to the leader, wanting to alarm him about the strange silence in the area. "It's way too silent here," The tom began, "Something is to happen..." he trailed off.

OOC: Sorry for shortness, the last few days I've been to tired to think straight. I'll try to do longer posts, I promise.
Petalwish looked nervously towards the hawk, hoping they wouldn't have to fight it. Between Brackenstar's warning and Kestralfang's ominous words, he could tell they didn't expect anything good.

[/i]"[/b] There was very little cover between them and the dog now, and Brackenstar could tell this creature would be fast. They needed to get out of its sight before it spotted them and gave chase, barking incessantly in a high, gravelly tone. The thought crossed his mind that perhaps they were lucky - maybe they were downwind of it. As if he had yowled the thought to Highstones, the small dog suddenly locked eyes with the leader. Brackenstar wasted no time in beginning to sprint - away from camp, but not quite towards the dog. WindClan cats had long used their speed and stamina to their advantage; it was common procedure for a WindClan Warrior to run as bait for dogs to give the other Warriors the ability to reach it for an attack. It just happened that Brackenstar was first to make the move to bait. He could only hope his Warriors had remembered their training and knew what he was doing.[/ul][/div] Jack Russell Terrier [45/45] [160/160]

Kestrelfang spotted his courageous leaders strong moves as he sacrificed himself as bait for the two other WindClan warriors. Kestrelfang looked over towards Petalwish, a frightened sense being knocked into the warriors eyes. But despite his fear, he unsheathed his claws and began to leap after the dog, not quite jumping onto the dog but distracting him as Kestrelfang sounded a feral hiss to the creature. Although, instead of attacking it with a jump, Kestrelfang stopped himself with his front paws to make a sharp turn, kicking his legs onto the creature with enough force to knock an older apprentice down, maybe even a warrior his age. But the dog seemed unfazed when it came to the force of knocking the small dog over, instead causing unnoticeable damage to the beings outsides.
Kestrelfang used the move 'Rear Kick' on Jack Russell Terrier, causing -15 damage and costing -10.

As the dog jumped at Brackenstar, Petalwish met Kestralfang's gaze for a moment, seeing his fear echoed in the expression of the other warrior. This was not good. Frozen with terror, he watched his fellow warrior attack before coming to his senses. Letting his leader die while he just stood there was basically treason. Trying to snarl, no noise came out, and he ended up just sprinting over to the small dog in silence. While the dog was fast, it was focusing on his leader rather than on him, so he was able to intercept it. Lunging for the creature with open jaws, he bit down hard, trying to keep a grip on the small beast. Hopefully this would slow it down a bit, and Brackenstar could have the chance to attack. Unfortunately, he was flung off almost immediately, doing basically nothing.
Petalwish used Grip of Sharpness on Jack Russell Terrier, and missed. CRpuL56T
