Valewhisper felt like her heart was in her throat as she stood just outside the entrance of her leader's den, trying to muster up the courage to call to her. Thoughts were buzzing through the Medicine Cat's head like wasps, and though it would be hard, Valewhisper knew she needed to get them out. The only one who could help quiet those particular thoughts was Moonstar. The leader had been so distant recently... The Medicine Cat pulled in a deep breath and called into the darkness in a soft, meek voice, "Moonstar? I need to speak with you."

Moonstar had been drifting off. I really need to get more sleep... thought Moonstar. Just when she was about to fall asleep, she heard Valewhisper call her. She sat up abruptly. Moonstar gave her pelt a quick lick to straighten it out, then walked of her den. "Yes Valewhisper? What is it?"

((OoC: If I remember, this thread was before ShadowClan and ThunderClan fought, so before Vale disobeyed Moonstar.)) Valewhisper padded in swiftly at the sound of her leader's voice beckoning her inside, dipping her head low in respectful greeting as she entered. The medicine cat looked her leader over; she seemed healthy, looking adequately plump. Even Moonstar's eyes seemed less full of grief than they had so many moons ago when her mate had been killed in a skirmish with ThunderClan. Valewhisper was relieved to see her Clanmate recovering.
"Moonstar," Valewhisper mewed respectfully, slowly, "I haven't seen you in my den recently. I've seen you going in and out of camp, and I am very grateful that you have been able to heal and recover after what happened with..." She trailed off. Moonstar had only begun to recover; Valewhisper didn't want to cause her more pain. "I have been missing you, though," she went on. "We haven't spoken in a while, and with everything going on with the other Clans..." She paused.
"How are you doing, Moonstar?"

OOC: Yep. That's correct.
IC: Moonstar was glad to have a visitor. It had been a while since she had had a pleasant conversation that wasn't riddled with talk of war with a cat of her own clan. Moonstar looked up at Valewhisper. "Thank you very much for asking. I've been doing well, although I just can't get away from talk of war with Thunderclan. So Valewhisper, how are you doing? Are there still more sick cats, or have you treated them?" Moonstar had a lot of things on her mind. Duties as leader were getting busier so she had to focus on those, but her poor kit was also riddled with sadness. All of this while Thunderclan was becoming more aggressive and the whole thing with Ottersplash.
It was just a lot to focus on, especially the skirmishes with Thunderclan. Moonstar was losing cats to Thunderclan and she really didn't know what to do. She didn't want to launch a full-on attack and cause many more lives lost, but without any help Moonstar might just resort to more... drastic measures.

Valewhisper felt herself relaxing in spite of herself as Moonstar spoke. Certainly her leader was sounding like the old Moonstar, with her motherly instinct. The she-cat asked about the health of the Clan, and Valewhisper purred softly in response. "ShadowClan is doing well, despite the constant attacks from ThunderClan and the sickness that haunted us through leaf-bare." The medicine cat shook her head slowly, thinking of all the injuries she had treated - the injuries that she could not treat, such as Falconstrike's. He hadn't stood a chance, and shame burned deep in Valewhisper's belly, but she held her tongue.
"Have StarClan spoken to you?" she asked quietly. The medicine cat didn't feel very optimistic; StarClan had said nothing about ThunderClan's behavior to her yet. Surely their warrior ancestors could not approve of such hostile behavior, but then why were they saying nothing?

Moonstar smiled at Valewhisper's response. She was glad to hear that her clan was doing well. Despite that, when Valewhisper asked of Starclan, a chill went down her spine. She had received a dream from Starclan, but it was more of a nightmare. Moonstar supposed that it was better to tell Valewhisper than keep secrets. "Well... I suppose I have had one dream." Moonstar sighed. "I had a nightmare. A large group of cats were invading, and among them was Falconstrike. I managed to fend them off, but behind them all was a cat with a scar who was more powerful than anything I have ever seen. I suppose it could always be just a normal nightmare though." Moonstar knew it sounded ridiculous, but the dream felt so real. Almost like it already happened.

Valewhisper's tufted ears perked with interest as Moonstar seemed to shiver, and the Medicine Cat leaned in as her leader began to describe the dream that she'd had. Valewhisper's fur prickled along her spine as she listened, and she watched Moonstar intently. The dream the ShadowClan leader described piqued her curiosity, but the sudden emptiness she felt in the pit of her stomach told her that, despite the she-cat's words, it wasn't just a nightmare. She said as much. "That dream was from StarClan," Valewhisper determined slowly, "but I... I'm uncertain what they may have been telling you."
She crouched low, tucking her paws beneath her chest, and asked Moonstar, "Were you here, in ShadowClan's territory, when you had to fend off invaders? Do you remember?" Valewhisper had many questions. "Please, tell me all that you can remember." Was Falconstrike one of the invading cats? Who were the others? What did the scarred tom look like? Could it have been an omen about Badgerstar and what lie in wait for ShadowClan at his claws? Moonstar would likely have mentioned if the large tom were Badgerstar, Valewhisper told herself.

Moonstar sighed. She really didn't want to recall the horrible dream. But she supposed it was important. "Fine. I started in my den a great pain in my chest - I don't know what it was. Then everything changed, I was now in a clearing in the forest. The area I was in was constantly changing between Shadowclan, Riverclan, Thunderclan, Skyclan, and a strange dark place I don't recognize. I was like a ghost, no one could hear me. I was beside a cat who looked just like me. They were fighting off the invading cats. Falconstrike was killing cats, and-" Moonstar stopped. When she recalled the moment, tears welled up in her eyes. "The cat who looked like me... they killed him. And then the scarred cat behind the invaders attacked and killed the cat who looked like me." Moonstar looked up at Valewhisper, confusion in her eyes. "I don't know what it means."

Valewhisper listened quietly as her leader spoke the words; from the hesitance and the strain when she began to speak, Valewhisper could tell that this dream had deeply disturbed Moonstar. However, hearing it gave Valewhisper no inkling as to what StarClan might have been telling her leader. The forest being invaded, shifting - it likely meant that the entire forest and all the Clans would suffer, or had suffered, by the claws of the scarred cat and the other invaders.
The black and white she-cat didn't stir immediately when Moonstar admitted to being uncertain about it's meaning. "I'm not sure, either..." the medicine cat murmured. She looked up into Moonstar's deep blue gaze and said kindly, seeing the she-cat's sadness, "Thank you for telling me. I will try to seek out our ancestors in my dreams. If I see no signs before the half moon, I will speak to them when I visit the Moonstone with the other medicine cats. Perhaps they can guide us."
