Tigerpounce sprawled out in the center of camp, her tail flicking lazily as she let the warm sun bathe her fur. She watched the camp bustling with life around her as patrols came and went, appreciating the fact that she had a few precious moments to herself. The silence that came with her thoughts left her at ease, letting her mind wander aimlessly instead of focusing on duties or the wellbeing of her clan. If only it could stay this way forever... Tigerpounce mused, though she found no point in entertaining the thought; the deputy knew there would always be hardships within her clan, it was the given nature of being a warrior, but that didn't mean she couldn't enjoy moments like these, however brief they were. |

Ashkit had been sitting in the shade of the nursery, quite bored. His parents he felt were almost always on patrols and they didn't really play with him much. So when he spotted his favorite cat in the middle of the clearing, he wanted to go say hi. He'd quickly bound over to the deputy. "Hi Tigerpounce!" He'd meow enthusiastically. "What are you doing?" He shook his long fur, he was getting bigger. He was almost at the age of an apprentice. His green eyes were bright with happiness.

Tigerpounce perked her ears up when she heard the kit approaching, letting out a soft purr as he bounced over to her side. "Well, I'm just resting here for a little bit," She said, nodding to the space right beside her, "Why don't you keep me company?" She felt bad for the little tom, with his parents being away most of the time, and she felt a slight twinge of guilt that it may be her fault, but the clan needed to keep its borders protected and its fresh kill pile stocked, so Tigerpounce felt no harm in acting like such a mother to Ashkit.
"You're getting so big," The deputy pointed out, nuzzling his larger, yet still kit-soft form, "You'll be out of the nursery before too long. Are you excited?" Tigerpounce smirked to herself, knowing she didn't need to ask him that question, and that he must be itching to become an apprentice already. She thought back to her kit days, how she could hardly stand another moon of being in the nursery, while the apprentices got to leave camp and train. "Your apprenticeship will fly by, and before you know it, you'll be a warrior. Make these days count," Tigerpounce advised, knowing full well the energetic little tom would be itching to be a warrior as soon as he became an apprentice.

Ashkit would sit next to the deputy. He enjoyed talking to her, it was fun. She was always nice to him, she was like another mother to him. His fuzzy tail would swish in the dirt clearing. "I'm super excited! I can't wait to be a warrior someday!" His green eyes brightened more, and he smiled broadly. He quickly licked his fur, noticing lots of dirt on it. He'd get closer to Tigerpounce's warm body. Even though he was super fluffy, it was still nice to do so.

The deputy curled around the little tom, leaning in to help wash the dirt off his fur, "And you will be someday," She murmured between licks, "I have no doubt you will be the best warrior of all." Leaning back once she was satisfied, Tigerpounce stretched her jaws in a massive yawn, noticing the sun slipping slowly beneath the horizon. "And with any luck, you'll have a mentor that will train you to be just as strong and as smart as I know you can be," She purred, nuzzling his fuzzy pelt, "I won't settle for anything less."

Ashkit would purr, also yawning after her. He noticed as well that the sun was slowly beginning to dip below the horizon. "I hope you're my mentor, that would be so cool!" He'd rub his head against her side, standing up. "I should probably get back to the nursery. I think its getting kind of late for me." He'd meow this, remembering how his mom would say how it was too late for him to still be up. His grey fluffiness blew in the slight breeze that was entering camp.

Giving Ashkit one final lick, she purred in delight, "I think you're just about right, little warrior. Sweet dreams, young one." Nudging the small tom in the direction of the nursery, Tigerpounce padded toward her own nest in the warriors den, eagerly awaiting the moss and bracken bedding that awaited her. Slinking into the den, the deputy carefully made her way to her nest, nearest to the center of the den, and curled up peacefully inside. She thought about what Ashkit had said, about him wanting her as his mentor, and wondered if she would be good enough to train this kit as an apprentice. The thought pricked her mind with worry, but she dismissed the thought, knowing that if she was good enough to be deputy, she was good enough to train Ashkit.
