Brackenstar paced his den quietly, his tabby-tipped tail flicking absently as he wandered deep in thought. It had been a little over a moon since he had agreed to enter an alliance with ThunderClan in the face of the looming ShadowClan threat. A pang of guilt made Brackenstar's whiskers twitch as he recalled how this decision had been made without consulting his medicine cat, senior warriors, or even his deputy, Sorrelcloud, who he had only named as deputy a few moons before.
The golden-brown tom sighed. Sorrelcloud had been stricken with greencough at the time, but besides that Brackenstar had happened to be in the patrol where they stumbled upon Badgerstar, the ThunderClan leader. It had been bad luck all around that had prevented Brackenstar from consulting the white-and-ginger she-cat before acting. Despite the agreement, however, the WindClan leader felt little loyalty to ThunderClan, and little certainty that he would risk much on Badgerstar's behalf. The entire exchange sat sourly in Brackenstar's belly.
The WindClan leader stood now and padded to the entrance of his den, gazing out into the clearing to search for his deputy. "Sorrelcloud, may I speak with you in my den?" the tom called upon spotting her. He stepped back in and waited for her arrival, hoping to discuss the situation between ThunderClan and ShadowClan with the she-cat now that she had recovered from her illness. The situation did not sit well with Brackenstar, and he wanted his deputy's opinion - after all, he had not chosen her for no reason.

| S orrelcloud had finished sending out with another border patrol. She was quite wary of Shadowclan with the fact they had chosen to side with Thunderclan. What could have happened or changed if she had been there? The thought lingered in her mind but remained silent about it.Which was harder than it looks coming from a she-cat that likes to speak her mind.
It was Brackenstar that chose her in the end and he had the final say but just didn't feel right. You could say it felt sort of a hole in her heart. It felt like inferiority instead of feeling like equals. She sighed around to walk away when she heard Brackenstar's voice. Maybe it time to speak on that same matter. Regardless, she proceeding over to her leader's den."You needed to see me, Brackenstar?" |

Brackenstar was ready when Sorrelcloud entered his den. The golden-grown tom immediately turned to face her, sitting in his nest and flicking his tail to beckon her to him. "Yes, please," he mewed. "Come in and make yourself comfortable." He waited for a moment to give his deputy a moment to settle in, then looked at her with an expression of mild concern and curiosity. "I hear you have finally recovered from your greencough. Are you feeling well?"
Though Brackenstar saw little point to exchanging pleasantries and small-talk, the health and well-being of his deputy affected him and his Clan directly. He did, in a sense, care how she was feeling, but he tried not to invest too many of his thoughts to it. If the medicine cat believed Sorrelcloud was healthy, all the better for Brackenstar. They had much to discuss.

| S orrelcloud walked closer to her leader but kept a respectful distance away. Then she sat down and her wrapping tail against her feet. Now comfortable she listened Brackenstar's words give him a modest smile." That greencough was a pain in the tail but I am much better and ready to lead and do my duties." She did not what to wait any longer and hold back her clan from due to illness. She was happy that she got the okay to return. She needed to back get into action and take charge again. Her brown eyes burned with her newfound and resolve.
"But I can tell this all not about my recovery." Blunt as ever and that never changed. She looked the brown tom right in the eye. "It's about the alliance with Thunderclan I heard about, right?" |

Brackenstar nodded shortly as Sorrelcloud confirmed that she had recovered. Though he could still hear a tired strain to her voice, he believed her completely. She looked quite well. After all, he had seen her at her worst when he temporarily relieved her of duties to rest. The normally unstoppable she-cat he'd grown up with had been quite sick, and while Brackenstar hadn't worried about her ability to recover, it was still hard to see her confined and weak.
Sorrelcloud got right to the point, asking what she had called him for and suggesting it as though reading Brackenstar's mind. The golden-brown tom appreciated that about his deputy: she never wasted time. "You are correct," Brackenstar responded, his voice heavy. "I regret that I was unable to discuss with you before I had to give an answer. Perhaps you could have given me the support I needed to make a different choice." The tom took in a deep breath and released it in a heavy sigh.
"Badgerstar is reckless," Brackenstar growled, his tail lashing slightly, "and impulsive. WindClan has long been friendly with ThunderClan, and we've certainly never been close with ShadowClan, but I do not want to risk WindClan lives if Badgerstar decides to instigate a fight. He seems to not recognize what WindClan risks by verbalizing support." He shook his head angrily. "He seems to think we will change the tide of his rivalry, but he is sorely mistaken, and I have tried to tell him as much. StarClan knows if he listens to me, though."

| S orrelcloud 's fur slightly of that implement fool of a leader, Bagderstar. If she had been there things would have a lot different and the Thunderclan leader wouldn't have gotten his way. That much was for sure. Her tail flicked against the ground as she shifted her paw from one to the other.
."That is no reason to regret what happened, for what is done is done." she said with a relaxed smile."I knew he was a fool from the moment I heard some of our clanmates talking about him-however I'm sure Moonstar has caught wind of this she didn't alright and likewise, that will not sit well with her. Sadness and mourning can blind even the strongest of minds and hearts."
She was subject to some like that when just a kit so she could feel for Moonstar losing someone she loved. Sorrelcloud was about to continue talking but stopped pondering sometimes. So that is it coming too. Her face changed to unreadable expression.
"If I was in her paws and found that my enemy had made an alliance I would do the same. So...You can bet she will do this same. Either Skyclan or Rivenclan."Her voice sounded grave as it needed to be. "Their war will plunder us all into war at this rate. " |

Brackenstar listened quietly as his trusted deputy, Sorrelcloud, spoke. Brackenstar had struggled with the decision, and he was uncertain with the choice he had made; it did not help when Sorrelcloud stated her explicit disapproval of the alliance. Though the WindClan leader took her advice to heart, he was Clan leader. His word was law. He knew she, and his Clan, would follow his orders whether they agreed or not. Brackenstar vowed to himself not to take advantage of the trust that they had put in him.
The golden-brown tom nodded his tabby-striped head, replying with an unconvincing scold to his voice, "He is a Clan leader; we must be respectful of him." Brackenstar sighed then and continued, "Moonstar is already well aware of WindClan's decision to ally with ThunderClan, and she has since allied with Pebblestar and all of RiverClan. SkyClan seems to be staying out of it for now - good for them." He stood and began to pace his den, looking Sorrelcloud over. She was absolutely correct; Badgerstar and Moonstar's quarrel would bring them all to ruin.
Brackenstar meowed, "I told Badgerstar at the last Gathering that WindClan will aid ThunderClan if ShadowClan attacks first, unprovoked, but if he exacerbates the issue and antagonizes Moonstar into attacking then he will be fighting on his own. It seems only fair to keep my word. Trust me, though; I will not risk our Clan because of a kittish squabble."

| S orrelcloud's ear slightly wavered back hearing the scolding in his tone. Maybe she was a bit harsh but she didn't regret it. She comes clean and never looks back but sometimes she can be a bit overzealous. She knew this was a critical time and best try not holding anything against anyone even Badgerstar. "I give him about as much respect as I give a normal leader who is not my own." She replied trying not to sound like a hypocrite ." And I will never blame Thunderclan for what happened but I blame Bagderstar. "She could not find it in her heart to blame a whole clan for the actions of its leader, regardless of what others think, feel, and say. Het tail beat against ground hard than before. "Moonstar has every right to get help from another clan. But I fear what would happen if Skyclan had to pick a side. That's what worries me." Two clans vs three clans would the odds of victory would be stacked against them but that only would happen if the war got that serious. Which she prayed to Starclan that wouldn't happen. Brackenstar's final words, however, put her more at ease. "Indeed, that is that fair trade-off. I'm sure with a warning like that he know not be so cocky and lump into battle." She smiled warmth at brown tom before her," Brackenstar, I have known you for a while now. I know you wouldn't anything that not in the Windclan's best interest at heart."The smile soon faded as the ginger molly sighed with a huge lump in her throat but continued to speak in a very calm voice, "I know this going to be plagued us for a while and it will never stop until the wair is over. All we can do is watched and wait to see who makes the first-however." She paused to catch some much-needed breath, "We should try to look past it for now or least let the clan some of the ideas. While I was just the medicine cat's den I overheard a lot of conversations. Mostly those who nervous about the war or those who are worried about War's effects. It's become more than just the talk of the clan. I fear it making everyone nervous and on edge more than they need to be." |

Brackenstar made no moves to scold Sorrelcloud a second time. She was a good cat and a good deputy, and she was in good company. He trusted her not to make these sorts of remarks around those who might repeat it, and he certainly didn't disagree with what she was saying. "I agree, Sorrelcloud," he said in his gravelly voice. ThunderClan was a good Clan, really. They were nothing if not loyal for obeying Badgerstar's orders without question and following his word to the letter. The Clan was respectful of that part of the Warrior Code, at least.
Brackenstar watched Sorrelcloud's agitation, and when she spoke again, her words filled him with unease. He dipped his head in consideration. He hadn't fully considered what may happen if Lionstar did choose a side. "Let's pray to StarClan that this feud ends before it has a chance to come to that," he murmured. WindClan was as far from ThunderClan as ShadowClan was, but RiverClan and SkyClan practically surrounded ThunderClan together. If Lionstar sided with Moonstar and Pebblestar, ThunderClan would be crushed by their power, and if they felt WindClan had slighted them...
Brackenstar shook his head as Sorrelcloud had pulled him from his worries with a simple fact: It was out of their paws now. To some perhaps it would cause more grief and fear to be out of control, but Brackenstar understood what Sorrelcloud was saying. He had made his choice, and no action or inaction on his behalf would undo it. When the ginger-and-white deputy mentioned unease among the Clan, however, Brackenstar frowned. "I see," he said, his voice thoughtful. "I will call a Clan meeting and speak with them." He looked into her eyes, searching them, and asked, "What would you tell them, if you were in my position?"
Brackenstar wished he had spoken to the Clan when he made the choice - or before, to keep him from agreeing in the first place. It's out of your paws, he reminded himself with a wistful sadness. WindClan was in the war - for now. They would be fine so long as Badgerstar's arrogance didn't create more problems for them all.

| S orrecloud smiled happily that her leader agreed with her and came up with a plan to reassure the clan. A clan meeting would be the best way to do, however, his question stumped her again. She wasn't going to lie or say another she didn't mean. She took a deep breath before speaking. "If I was in your position I would be honest in my mistake in not speak to anyone about the alliance. I would make sure I sound as reassuring as I can and ready to answer any question so long as they're not to rash. I would so also make sure I tell them about the warning given to Bagderstar. I believe that will really help if something else."
As looked Brackerstar in the eye again. She knew how private he likes to be and might a little difficult for him. Maybe the idea that just surfaced in her mind could help. "If was your want try and practice. I'm all ears."Sorry,I didn't do this sooner and I love How Valewhiksper treats Frostkit it so cute. |
