Ferretheart lifted herself up from her nest, today she needed to train Mousepaw so she could learn her hunting and battle moves. It was important that the she learned quick, since Badgerstar had given her the honor to train such a wonderful apprentice.
The warrior walked into the apprentices den, nudging Mousepaw enough to wake her up. Ferretheart leaned into Mousepaw's ear, careful to not awake any other apprentices around her. "Training starts today." The she mewed, hoping that Mousepaw heard her. "I'll be waiting outside for you eating, you should grab a bite too before we go." Ferretheart whispered, moving herself outside and near the fresh-kill pile where she grabbed a juicy squirrel and began to eat her breakfast. She looked around, it was still dark but the sun would be rising soon, and Ferretheart wanted to be out of camp for that happened, so hoped that Mousepaw would be waking up soon.

Mousepaw roused with a start, feeling the presence of a bigger cat in this new and unfamiliar den with her. She relaxed when she heard the familiar voice of Ferretheart, her new mentor. Mousepaw didn't know much about the other she-cat, but at least the Warrior wasn't a monster like Mousepaw had woken up thinking. Ferretheart instructed Mousepaw to get up and eat, and the drowsy Apprentice gave her mentor a tiny nod.
The silver dappled she-cat stood in her new nest and glanced around, looking at her new denmates. It was dark outside, but surely the sun would be rising soon. Despite that Mousepaw herself had just woken up, she felt a smugness over them because she was up and getting ready for training before them. 'Lazy,' she thought, flicking her tail as she left the den.
As requested, Mousepaw grabbed a small bird from the fresh-kill pile and ate it quickly before trotting over to Ferretheart, her tail high. "Good morning, Ferretheart, I'm ready to begin training!"

Ferretheart laughed, "You're a fast one, huh?" She purred as she signaled Mousepaw to move along with her outside of camp. The she-cat looked behind her to Mousepaw, "We'll be learning both hunting and battling today, which one do you want to pick first?" She mewed as she Thin and looked around for a fitting hunting spot to claim. She had found a clearing and knew it was perfect for Mousepaw to be in, for she knew that being up early would get the two through training in no time. She stopped, knowing they were at the Training Site and that they needed to start training once Mousepaw chose which practice she wanted to learn first. Ferretheart sat down, waiting for Mousepaw's response quietly and calmly.

Mousepaw nodded proudly in response to Ferretheart's observation. The Apprentice prided herself on being timely, and her desire to become a Warrior certainly motivated her speed. When the Warrior gave Mousepaw a choice between hunting or fighting practice first, the young she-cat replied almost immediately, "Fighting."
They reached their destination - the training grounds - and Mousepaw turned quickly to face her mentor, puffing out her chest and mewing, "We're at war with ShadowClan, aren't we? I need to be able to defend myself and my Clan!"

Ferretheart laughed, "We are, although Badgerstar is trying to calm the fight down. It's not everyday you get a calm Moonstar from what I've heard about the she-cat." Ferretheart mewed, beginning to stand up to begin her apprentices lesson. "First, we will learn a simple move called 'Unsheathed Strike'," The female started, "You will begin by unsheathing your claws, which I'm sure you've already learned." Ferretheart commented explained, "Then, you will attack your opponent anywhere on their body." The warrior mewed, demonstrating in a friendly way. Ferretheart looked towards Mousepaw, hoping to find her doing the same thing that Ferretheart had been doing.
The new mentor felt good, it was their first lesson and it was already being productive, although it was probably because Ferretheart and Mousepaw had made a good match. Suddenly, Ferretheart began to get a feeling that she would enjoy teaching a lot more in this lesson than she usually did. The she-cat purred lowly to herself, hoping that Mousepaw didn't notice and get caught off guard the slightest bit.

Mousepaw nodded. She seemed to remember that her father had been trying to ease the tensions. Mousepaw couldn't think of why, though; ThunderClan had suffered many losses to ShadowClan, or that was what the silver she-cat had been told. Why were they simply backing down now that ShadowClan was stepping all over them? Badgerstar had to know what he was doing, however, so Mousepaw could only wait and see the outcome.
The Apprentice stood ready across from Ferretheart, ears perked for instruction. Mousepaw felt an indignant twinge when her mentor made a joke about Mousepaw being able to unsheathe her claws, but she bit her tongue and obediently showed that she could use them without trouble. She watched Ferretheart's demonstration, then poised to try it herself. OfMXLXkm Mousepaw felt her body moving in a smooth flow, and she felt confident that she was swiping her claws correctly. She pictured some stinky ShadowClan Apprentice in front of her and batted away excitedly.

Ferretheart nodded in approval, "You did it!" The she mewed excitingly, "Now, the next move is only to use when you want to kill or knock out your opponent, but its very dishonorable to your clan and is looked down upon." Ferretheart mewed, "You bite your enemies next as hard as you can, and they are either knocked out or dead, its hard to tell sometimes, so be careful if you ever need to use it." She explained, beginning to move onto the next attack. "The next move is vital if you want to take control of the fight. You need to be strong when this happens, or else you may end up being pinned down as well." Ferretheart warned, showing how to move worked. "You jump onto your attack and pin them down with all your might, this shows them who's boss." The warrior explained, getting off the ground and back to her normal position of standing. "Your final move is most common to be called 'Running Tackle'," Ferretheart mewed, "It dazes your opponent and hurts them as well. All you must do is run to your opponent and knock them down. And with unsheathed claws, you claw into your attackers stomach or back." The she finished, landing on a final note. "Now that you have the hang of it, let's start this battle! I'll go easy on you to not hurt you." ferretheart mewed, getting into her battle position.

Mousepaw watched her mentor closely, imitating every move as closely as she could. She was determined to be a strong Warrior; she needed to learn everything she could if she was going to be able to make her family proud of her. Despite listening closely, however, the silver she-cat felt a pang of apprehension when her mentor stated they needed to spar together.
Obviously Mousepaw was outmatched by Ferretheart, but the Warrior reassured her that she would not hurt her. However, the insinuation that her mentor needed to go easy on her gave Mousepaw a bitter feeling. She crouched, ready to battle, and was unable to move quickly enough to avoid the older she-cat's strike. Mousepaw felt a sting of pain on her head and hissed in response, reaching out to return her own strike. JmDzedzA Mousepaw's claws swished uselessly through the air, nowhere near her mentor.
Mousepaw failed to use Unsheathed Strike.

"That's alright! If you ever need a break just tell me." Ferretheart insisted, beginning to use her next move which would be pin. The she-cat wanted to test how much Mousepaw knew what to do when it came to being trapped. The newly appointed mentor needed to teach her apprentice exactly how much she needed to know in order to become a warrior and fight for their clan successfully. So, Ferretheart jumped onto Mousepaw as carefully as she could, hoping that her attack would work so that Mousepaw could react the way that Ferretheart had hoped, by fighting back.
Ferretheart used 'Pin' on Mousepaw, holding her down with as much strength as she could summon. But was unsuccessful...

Mousepaw felt her ears burning with embarrassment, but Ferretheart mewed reassuringly and jumped right into her next attack - literally. The young silver she-cat fell underneath her mentor with a woosh of air, but she felt her mentor's grip slipping already. The Apprentice twisted out from beneath Ferretheart and, while she had her chance, scrambled away, only to turn and take a furious flying leap at the Warrior. Ferretheart realized she hadn't yet taught the young cat ThunderClan most powerful move. "Remember that we only use this move when we're warriors, okay?" Ferretheart reminded young Mousepaw, beginning to start running around the smaller she-cat in a large circle, getting closer and closer by the second. Then, with flying paws, Ferretheart flew towards Mousepaw as gently as possible, trying to fight the urge to unsheathe her claws, knowing that this was just training.

Mousepaw fell pretty uselessly beneath her mentor, hissing with frustration. She scrambled frantically, but she knew this time she was pinned. She let out a low, irritated sigh. "Okay, you win," she grumbled impatiently, embarrassed by how easily she was defeated. "Can I get up now?"

Ferretheart giggled, "Yes, Mousestar." she mewed as she began to push herself up. She looked down at Mousepaw, beginning to ask her if she was ready for hunting, but suddenly feeling bad for the poor thing. "Don't worry, your first battle is always your worst. You should of seen your father when he was your age, his first battle was a total flop." Ferretheart laughed, "But he got where he wanted to be, right?" she reassured Mousepaw. "Why don't we start hunting?" Asked the she, beginning to know that it would be a little easier on the apprentice. "Maybe you'll enjoy it more than how you enjoyed our battle."

The Apprentice nearly rolled her eyes when her mentor called her 'Mousestar' jokingly, but Mousepaw hadn't even thought of being a leader before; the sound of her name, however, brought her a glimmer of pride. Of course she could become leader someday, just like her father. Then she wouldn't have to be bossed around by all her Clanmates. Ferretheart stepped off and Mousepaw stood quickly, shaking the dust and grass off her fur.
Her frustration was momentarily interrupted when Ferretheart stated that Badgerstar's first fight went poorly, too. "Really?" Mousepaw asked suspiciously. It was hard for her to believe, but it did help her feel better. Ferretheart was right; Badgerstar was a leader. If his first fight went badly and he was still leading ThunderClan, Mousepaw felt a little reassured that she wouldn't be a flop of an Apprentice just for doing badly her first time.
She nodded, trying to be aloof, and replied, "Sure, we can hunt, that sounds alright." She couldn't be too excited - she wasn't a kit anymore.

Ferretheart could feel the loss of interest from the new apprentice, who now had known how to defend herself. "My mother knew your father quite well, she had been his mentor." The she-cat explained, "She would leak some part of her day to me sometimes, even if it wouldn't be vital for me." Ferretheart laughed, "I know your father more than any cat in ThunderClan, being that I've actually met with him on numerous occasions." The mentor explained, pausing for a moment as she began to turn towards the hunting site. "Your father was much different than how he is now. He wasn't so...arrogant, put others before him mostly." Ferretheart said with a somewhat annoyed tone, "But I know that his pride for ThunderClan made him deputy." She finished, looking over to Mousepaw and stopping where the perfect spot in the hunting grounds was.
